HOW TO APPLY

My research seeks to model the Earthquake-Induced Landslide Dams formed by a future Alpine Fault Earthquake in Aotearoa | New Zealand. Forecasting earthquake-induced landslide dams (EQILDAM) is critical for hazard mitigation, infrastructure, and public safety in New Zealand, where 62% of natural dams are earthquake-triggered and most fail within a year after formation, leading to catastrophic flooding both up and downstream. This PhD research project seeks to develop a general method to identify the most hazardous locations for EQILDAM in New Zealand鈥檚 South Island. Moreover, it aims to assess the stability and breaching patterns of dams formed during a hypothetical Alpine Fault Magnitude 8 scenario (AF8).
