Research Interests
Annelies works with contemporary social theory to explore the intersection of young people, education, training and employment. Her research foci include critical studies of youth transition; the teenage parent and education, leadership and the 'joined-up' policy agenda.
Prior to her move to the academy, Annelies held senior roles in strategic management in the not-for-profit sector and industry training in both Aotearoa New Ƶappand Australia.
On her move to the academy, Annelies lectured at Dublin City University and held the position of Deputy Director of the Higher Education Research Centre and as External Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland.
She has published four books. Her fifth book 'Leading Educational Networks' is co-authored with Professor Toby Greany and will be published by Bloomsbury in 2021.
Annelies is a member of the Sustainable Citizenship and Civic Imagination Research Group, and serves on the Leadership Team for the Research Institute of Child Well-being.
She is Head of School for Educational Studies & Leadership, and is currently Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor for the College of Education Health & Human Development.
