Rukmini (Minni) Gorthy

07 March 2024

"I cannot imagine anything better than a PhD that combines the most innovative aspects of mechanical engineering with materials science鈥"

HOW TO APPLY

A long-term desire to work in a forensic laboratory or museum has been the motivation for Minni to study for a multidisciplinary research degree.

"Being a very curious person, I have always wanted to work in an area that would require exploration as the main research tool. If I could include international travel into the mix 鈥 that would be perfect!"

Under the supervision of Prof. Susan Krumdieck, Minni is currently applying the principles of Forensic Science to antimicrobial ceramic based coatings. This involves analysing the materials visually, structurally and mechanically.

"I cannot imagine anything better than a PhD in a field that combines the most innovative aspects of mechanical engineering with materials science," she says.

"Working in this area for my doctoral research is an amazing experience that is bringing me new and exciting insights every day!"
