Commerce Teachers Connect with Industry to Inspire Next Generation

Te Kura Umanga | UC Business School, in conjunction with MYOB, has run a successful teachers conference in 2019.

On Thursday 11th听April, the UC Business School ran its first Teachers听Commerce Conference in Canterbury since the 2011 earthquakes. The event, sponsored by MYOB, saw high school commerce teachers travel from around New 茄子视频app官网to attend various sessions led by public and private sector leaders, speaking about issues relevant to their area.

Attendees were also given the opportunity to tour the offices of Kilmarnock & EY, as well as 茄子视频app官网鈥檚 world-class facilities 鈥 the Trading Room, Centre for Entrepreneurship spaces, and the new Product Design degree.

Presentations were given by Sue McVeigh and Ellex Stewart from NZQA, Shailan Patel from MYOB, Karen Haig from ChristchurchNZ, Kendall Flutey from Banquer, and an industry panel that included Tim Jones from Kilmarnock and David Winter from EY.

Speakers discussed topics such as the fourth industrial revolution, how technology is shaping business, and the adaptability needed to not only survive, but thrive, in the ever-changing business world. Other sessions looked at the opportunities in Canterbury now and the future, and a deep dive into Gen Z as a generation of social entrepreneurs.

With the help of MYOB鈥檚 sponsorship, commerce teachers in New 茄子视频app官网were given the opportunity to take away current industry information that will support the next generation of accountants, innovators and entrepreneurs. In turn, the company gained insight into how they can continue to support teachers in helping students successfully transition from secondary education, said Education Manager for MYOB Shailan Patel.
