14 June 2024
HOW TO APPLY

Publishing research data increases the transparency, impact, and recognition of your work. It is also increasingly important for complying with funder and institutional policies, and for supporting FAIR, CARE, and M膩ori data sovereignty principles. The below resources are designed to introduce you to a variety of important tools, initiatives and considerations to support you in the publishing of your research data.

Your local Subject Librarian can help, and the 茄子视频app官网 have a team of research metadata experts who can help you through the process of choosing a data repository, and fill in all the appropriate metadata for it.听 Having the right subjects and identifiers can make the difference between your hard work disappearing without trace, and being found. See the Subject Guide below:

The University has a subscription to a self-service digital publishing platform called Figshare. Figshare is a repository where users can make their data, papers, code, media and other research outputs available in a citeable, shareable and discoverable manner. Research outputs can be shared privately with collaborators or made public in the name of open research or to comply with funder and publisher mandates. All research outputs made public receive a DOI making them citable with the most liberal Creative Commons license possible. You can create a repository and once the library staff has approved it, it will be issued a (DOI) so that you can cite and link your repository. For more information about Figshare, please see the .

罢丑别听听strongly recommends that research data is made openly available whenever they are not precluded by indigenous data sovereignty considerations, copyright restrictions, confidentiality requirements, or contractual clauses. Researchers should be prepared to share data with other researchers through online institutional or subject data repositories whenever they are not restricted by other considerations as described above.听 Please consider carefully the following constraints and considerations prior to publishing:

  • Privacy Protection:听 Does the dataset contain sensitive information that requires protection to uphold the privacy rights of individuals involved? Ensure that any personal or confidential information is handled in accordance with applicable data protection regulations.
  • Confidentiality Obligations:听 Are there any Confidentiality Agreements that may be associated with the data? Avoid disclosing any information that could compromise confidentiality agreements with third parties or affiliated institutions.
  • Third-Party Data: Acknowledge and respect any third-party data included in the dataset.听 Comply with data sharing / licensing agreements and attribution requirements associated with third-party data sources.
  • Commercialisation: Consider whether the data is associated with a project which may have a commercial outcome which could be prejudiced by the release of the data.
  • Ethical Considerations: Ensure that the use of the data aligns with ethical standards and guidelines within the academic community. Seek approval from relevant ethical review boards if the research involves human subjects or sensitive topics.
  • Compliance with UC鈥檚 Policies: Verify whether the release of the data complies with institutional rules and听policies.
  • Security Measures:听 Take appropriate security measures to prevent unauthorised access, modification, or misuse of the dataset.听 Clearly state any restrictions or conditions for accessing and using the data to maintain its integrity.
  • 听Attribution and Citation:听 Provide proper attribution to the original data source and cite the dataset appropriately in any publications or derivative works.

An ORCID ID is a persistent identifier (like a DOI) for researchers. Many journals request that the researcher include their ORCID ID when publishing papers.听 Use your ORCID ID to connect to your research outputs, including research data.听

Create your ORCID ID

You can create your ORCID ID by registering at the website. After creating and updating your information, you can connect it with the , which will let the University assert your relationship and read/write information directly to your ORCID record.
