Introduction

The Postgraduate Certificate in International Law and Politics (PGCertIntLaw&Pols) will grow your expertise in international law with taught courses on process, actions, and challenges with politics on the world stage.

You will also pick elective courses to specialise your knowledge in specific areas such as in World Trade Law or Human Rights Law.

UC's international law degrees have a particular focus on Aotearoa New Zealand's place amongst world politics and the complications of engaging with international relations.

What will my study involve?

  • Gain advanced knowledge of international politics with the ability to specialise in your chosen field.
  • Learn from academics across the Faculty of Law with expertise in areas such as international law and policy, environmental law, Law of the Sea, trans-national law, and disaster policy.

Entry requirements

To apply to the PGCertIntLaw&Pols, you will need to have previously completed a Bachelor of Laws degree (or any other bachelor's degree and have two years' work experience in a similar field), with a B Grade Average or better in at least 90 points of your 300-level courses.

If English is your additional language, you will also need to provide evidence of your English language ability as either:

  • IELTS (Academic) 7, with no individual score below 6.5
  • TOEFL IBT with a total minimum 100, and a minimum writing score of 23
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) with an overall score of 64, and no band below 58.
