Workshop Information
Participants will explore topics such as working with complex trauma and emotional dysregulation, managing complexity in child health settings, addressing perinatal and postnatal mental health, and supporting children whose parents have mental illness. The workshop will also cover family systems and therapeutic approaches.
The overall theme of this three-day workshop will relate to formulation driven practice when working with clinical complexity as well as working systemically. Content covered will likely include the following components*:
- Working with complex trauma and emotional dysregulation: formulation and intervention
- Complexity within child health settings
- Perinatal and postnatal mental health as well as working with children whose parents have mental illness
- Family systems: formulation and therapeutic approaches
It is hoped that by the end of the workshop participants will have gained a greater awareness of the complexity that exists within the child, adolescent, and family population as well as advancing their confidence, knowledge, and application, both at an individual and systems level, across formulation and intervention.听

Workshop Faciliators
Dr. Emma Brown is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the 茄子视频app官网, and a registered Clinical Psychologist. Emma completed her PhD and Clinical Psychology Training at Te Herenga Waka|Victoria University of Wellington. Emma worked in infant, child, adolescent and family services for 8 years in both the greater Wellington region and Canterbury before joining the 茄子视频app官网 as a Clinical Educator in The Psychology Centre. Emma continues to supervise students in The Psychology Centre as a Clinical Educator, while lecturing in the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology qualification. Emma鈥檚 therapeutic interests centre around attachment and emotion regulation, trauma related disorders and assessment and treatment of personality disturbance.
Nadine Pow is a Clinical Educator for Clinical Psychology at the 茄子视频app官网, and a registered Clinical Psychologist. Nadine completed her Clinical Psychology Training at 艑t膩kou Whakaihu Waka|University of Otago in 2008 after which her clinical focus became the psychological assessment and treatment of children and adolescents. Nadine joined the 茄子视频app官网 as a Clinical Educator for The Psychology Centre in 2021 where her teaching and supervision efforts in the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology qualification are in working with children, adolescents, and families.
Sarah Whitcombe-Dobbs is a senior lecturer and psychologist at the 茄子视频app官网, and the Programme Director for the child and family psychology postgraduate training programme. Sarah also practises, primarily undertaking ACC service provision and assessments for the Family Court. She has worked in a range of roles and sectors with children, young people and wh膩nau for more than 20 years. Her enduring interests are child maltreatment and the intergenerational transmission of trauma, with her research focusing on 鈥榳hat works鈥 for families involved with Oranga Tamariki.听 She has a pragmatic approach, and is deeply interested in interventions that reduce harm within families, and support children to develop according to their potential.
