China Scholarship Council PhD Scholarship

The UC-China Scholarship Council (CSC) scholarship fosters research collaboration between UC and Chinese universities. UC invites applications from Chinese postgraduate students to undertake doctoral study with support from UC and the CSC. Successful students are based in Christchurch and undertake original research.

This collaboration between UC and the CSC aims to foster long-term research partnerships with Chinese universities while supporting your academic journey.

CSC Application Process

Applications for the CSC Scholarship should made directly to the CSC . Applications open in March each year and applicants are notified of the outcome in May.听

In order to apply you will need an offer of place from UC and a letter confirming that the University has agreed to a fee scholarship for up to 4 years if the CSC scholarship is awarded.

It can take 4-8 weeks for an offer of place to be issued so it is important that you apply before the end of the year. The UC Graduate School will assist you to navigate this process. Please see below for information on what you will need in order to apply.

Before you apply:

To apply for a PhD at UC with a CSC Scholarship, you must find a suitable supervisor in your chosen area of research. Use to explore potential supervisors. Graduate School staff can assist you in this process if needed.

Apply to UC for Admission

Once you have met the pre-application requirements. You can start your PhD application at UC, to apply you鈥檒l need to:

Submit the following documents:

  • Academic transcripts (undergraduate and postgraduate).
  • Grading scale of your home university.
  • Degree certificates (if available).
  • Initial statement of research intent (to be refined with your supervisor).
  • Proof of English language proficiency.
  • Academic CV/resum茅.

Application Assessment:

Your qualifications and academic transcripts will be assessed by the UC Admissions Office and your chosen department. You must have completed a significant piece of independent research (as part of your Honours or Master鈥檚 degree) to be eligible. Learn more about UC's eligibility requirements.

Offer of Place and Fees Letter:

Once your application is assessed and accepted, UC will provide you with an offer of place for the PhD programme and a letter confirming tuition fee coverage, contingent upon receiving the CSC scholarship. The Offer of Place and letter confirming fees are required to be submitted as part of your CSC application.

Confirm your start date and apply for NZ student visa:
